Treasure Warehouse
A museum in the port welcomes you to the incredible world of photography.
The port of Thessaloniki, one of the most significant in Greece and the Balkans, is the city’s prologue and epilogue, a vital part of its historical narrative and an ideal place for a stroll and a little romance. The cultural institutions there contribute to much of the port’s vibrant energy. One of them is the Greek Museum of Photography, rated among seven of the best in Europe, inside Warehouse A. On exhibit are an impressive collection of more than 4,000 photographic works by 280 Greek and foreign artists dating back to 1970. Moreover, significant work is progressing in creating photo archives and collections, planning educational programmes, organising exhibitions in Greece and abroad, and publishing catalogues. From the museum’s minimalist café, one gets the sense of being on a ship gazing out to sea through large windows. Perhaps you, too, will be inspired to capture the timelessness of the moment through your lens.
