COASTAL SPLENDOUR

Endowed with monuments and incomparable beauty, the town of Skiathos –picturesque and cosmopolitan– is the island’s heart and soul.

The town of Skiathos extends amphitheatrically along a protected bay. It is divided into two sections –the Old and New Port– by the Bourtzi Peninsula. A Venetian fortress once stood proudly, serving as the town’s iconic symbol.

Adorned with pine trees, Bourtzi resembles a painting. Near the port, in a passage off of Papadiamantis Street (a bustling thoroughfare with shops, restaurants and bars), is the residence of Alexandros Papadiamantis, the Saint of Greek Letters, one of the most influential Greek writers. This old, two-storey mansion exudes an unassuming charm. Presently, the house serves as a museum. For an enchanting experience, venture to the neighbourhood of Plakes, located on the western side of town.

Here, you’ll traverse through narrow cobblestone streets adorned with charming island homes, their iron balconies enveloped by cascades of vibrant bougainvillaea. Don’t miss the small hidden beach nestled nearby, beloved by the residents. Another must-do activity is ascending the hill to the chapel of Agios Nikolaos with the old bell tower. Panoramic views of the island’s most breathtaking sunsets await.
