Discovered in 1985 by Dimitris Mavrikis off the coast of Peristera island, it measured 30 metres in length and 10 metres in width. Loaded with approximately 3,000 amphorae carrying the renowned wines of Mende (an ancient city of Halkidiki) and Peparithos (modern day Skopelos), its sinking was from either a violent storm or a devastating onboard fire. Far from an ordinary diving excursion, it is a journey into an extraordinary archaeological treasure. The abundance of remarkably preserved amphorae makes it a significant monument, on par with the revered Parthenon of Athens.
