Gastronomy

Thessaloniki’s most alternative, multi-purpose space combines art and gastronomy.

In 2000, childhood friends Vangelis Liakos, Alexis Nikou, and Yiannis Charalampopoulos embarked on a unique journey in Kalamaria, driven by a shared childhood dream – to establish a visual communication and creative design company. Thus, Beetroot was born. Their collective mission? To meticulously study, craft and develop distinctive identities for services, companies and products. Later, two more friends, Elias Pantikakis and Kostas Pavlopoulos, joined the business. With their graphic prowess, advertising concepts, and innovative designs, they earned numerous accolades and firmly established Beetroot’s renowned reputation abroad.

In July 2021, Beetroot found its new home in the long-abandoned Ismail Pasha Khani, nestled at the intersection of Syggrou, Paikou and Valaoritou. This two-story architectural gem, dating back to 1905, boasts soaring ceilings and an eclectic style, earning its classification as a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture. Witnessing its remarkable restoration and metamorphosis into a unique, multi-purpose space is awe-inspiring.

Today, in addition to Beetroot’s dedicated workspaces, the ground floor houses its very own branded store, Yiayia and Friends, offering quality foods, unique design objects, as well as a cosy café. Descending to the basement, you’ll encounter a vibrant gallery hosting their creative projects and various cultural and educational activities. Moreover, the basement serves as the bustling preparation room for their brand-new restaurant, Poster. At the helm is Vassilis Chamam. The restaurant is conveniently located just across the street. Beetroot embodies timeless values through its inclusive invitation to engage with various art forms – a reflection of their deep love for the city of Thessaloniki.
