Three islands one trip
Begin from the cosmopolitan island, Skiathos. You will love its beautiful sandy beaches and vibrant nightlife. While visiting Chora, find the home of the celebrated Greek novelist Alexandros Papadiamantis on Papadiamantis Street to learn about his childhood. Swim in the emerald green waters and relax in the shade of pines on Koukounaries beach. If you prefer eerily beautiful pebbled beaches, take the boat to Lalaria. You will be astounded by the sheer amount of sea caves. Satisfy your hunger at Marmita restaurant. Try the lamb with greens or the sea bass. For cocktails and selfies, head to Rock ’n’ Roll bar.
The next stop is Skopelos, the home of ‘Mamma Mia!’, which was filmed on the breathtaking beach of Kastani. The island is a 20 to 30 minute ride by sea taxi. We recommend wandering the cobbled alleyways, snapping photos of old mansions as you explore. For good eats, go to Michalis and try the famous local cheese pie, as well as the traditional ’avgato’ (plum) spoon sweet and the dessert, in the almond pastry ’hamalia’.
The last stop is Alonissos, which is only a 15 minute Flying Cat ferry ride from Skopelos. Begin by visiting the island’s National Marine Park – an absolute must! It is the largest marine park in Europe, and is responsible for protecting the Mediterranean species of seal, Monachus monachus. In the wider area of the park, you can enjoy finds from the Prehistoric, Classical and Byzantine periods such as shipwrecks, old monasteries and churches. A dip into the turquoise waters of Leftos Gialos, a beautifully-pebble beach, will leave you exploring its seabed for hours. If you’re looking for a bite, a great atmosphere and an incredible view, then go to Favela in Patitiri village. Sample the rice croquettes with cheese, tomato and bacon, as well as the beef with sweet potato purée, and the watermelon salad. For fresh fish by the sea, book a table at the tavern, Meltemi. Don’t miss the opportunity to try the ‘twisted’ cheese pie wherever you can find it. On August 15th, Alonissos hosts one of the most important festivals in the Old Village: a presentation of a traditional island wedding. Stick around – you may be saying “I do”, too…
